Are you tired of preachers suggesting that you give 10% or more in the offering plate and any other method you see fit? – this page is for you!
I’m going to put this simply, so read your scripture to verify for your own comfort.
—> Short Answer: Tithing is not for us today, not in any way shape or form. Read scripture for yourself, in its intended Context!
—> Tithing literally means 10% or a one-tenth, designated ONLY for the past Levitical Priests (which the tribe of Levi does not stand in a temple, today).
When it comes to tithing, that ‘offering’ the giving to God, I have a much better understanding of how this issue has become such a sore spot for most Christians today. For example, often time many families are struggling to make ends meet, living paycheck-to-paycheck, playing some version financial roulette, and then still trying to give 10% or more to the offering plates in church buildings — because we are indoctrinated that this is necessary, helpful, and that God will bless you.
—> Truth Manifested: To discover this truth you have a couple of areas to read in your bible.
Part One: I would quickly review the 1st mention of tithing in Genesis, how tithing is Holy, per God, to the Jews, the rules, formalities and structure of tithing as given to the Levitical children (Tribe of Levi), to Deuteronomy (meaning the second giving of the Law, by Moses), Nehemiah (bring tithes to the priests / you must travel; includes meat, corn, wine, other crops, frankincense, vessels, and much more), Amos (bringing sacrifices and tithes every three (3) years). and then the last minor prophet (Malachi) speaks to how it is the ‘robbing of God’, for Jews to not adhere to the Laws of God, again meantioned in the New Testament in the Epistle to the Hebrew people (again, only Jews, only under the Law).
Part Two: Finally, compare to the Epistles of Paul (on our ‘Creation Days’ or even ‘Tithing’ pages), where contrast is provided for us, today. Below are some general examples. We are not under the Law, today (includes Jews and Gentiles, both, but under Grace!).
Genesis 14:18-20
“18And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.”
Leviticus 27:30-32
“30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s: it is holy unto the Lord. 31And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. 32And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord.”
Numbers 18:21-24
“21And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. 22Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die. 23But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance. 24But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.”
Deuteronomy 14:22-29
“22Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. 23And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thy oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always. 24And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee: 25Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: 26And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, 27And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee. 28At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: 29And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.”
Deuteronomy 26:12
“When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;”
Malachi 3:8-10
“8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. 10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.“
Facts about tithing:
- Tithing was for the Levitical Priesthood (Old Testament), Jews Only!
- Lev 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD.
- Lev 27:31 And if a man will at all redeem ought of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof.
- Lev 27:32 And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD.
- Lev 27:33 He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.
- Lev 27:34 These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.
- Levites were charged with manning the Temple, maintaining God’s word, teaching the people of Israel in God’s Law and the Gospel of the Kingdom.
- Tithing is NOT for us today (not Gentiles nor Israel) and IMPOSSIBLE to adhere to this Law
- The 2nd Temple (where tithes were last taken) was destroyed in 70 AD (Led by Titus of Rome), and the Jews were scattered – Globally! – read your history books. This was documented by Rome, a monument (Arch of Titus) was built then and still stands today. So, how do you deliver to the Levitical Priests of the Temple, which no longer stands?
- Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
- Today, Paul teaches us to Give Freely. This implies IF and How Much. Either way, it is NOT for the Tithe!
- 2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
Why do preachers try to keep us under the Law of the OT and the Kingdom of God (which belongs only to Israel)?
- The ONLY reason for this message is a ‘Pay Check‘. When preachers feel they want or need more money, out comes the sermon – “remember, God commands us to give 10%” but you can always give more, 10% is only the minimum.
- As we know, most churches have applied for a 501c3 ( https://www.creationliberty.com/articles/501c3.php ). I do not own or support that site. Is informational, in this area.
Giving?
- Unlike Tithing required by the Law, we are also NOT forbidden from generally Giving. It is even encouraged!
- Giving and Tithing are not equal or interchangeable terms!
- So what is the issue? The issue is ‘Tithing’, a mandatory function, only in the Law, only to the Jews, and Specifically ONLY for the Levitical Priests! They lived at the temple, owned no land, was not permitted to farm etc.! If they needed money or wanted to buy food or other required goods, only by tithes could they make this happen! But Freely Giving!? Look at God’s Grace in our Salvation, it is a purely a Gift!
- Scripture:
The Cheerful Giver - 2Co 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
2Co 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
2Co 9:9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
2Co 9:10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
- In other words, if you want to give, then Give cheerfully (but certainly not for boasting). If you don’t want to give in any particular moment, then you certainly should ‘not’, as that would not be as purposed in your heart.
