The Lord’s Prayer and The Sinners Prayer

How do these prayers apply to us today, regarding out Salvation?

  • Short answer – neither are correct for us today! Nor will either Save you. Neither is in Scripture, for us!

Lord’s Prayer:

  • Mat 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Mat 6:14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
  • Explanation of the Lord’s Prayer:
    • This prayer is ‘beautiful’! I would never speak down to it, ever! However, it was to the Jews, for the Jews, and only while Christ was still on earth!
      • Mat_3:2  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat_4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    • This message of “the Kingdom of Heaven is at Hand” is literally Jesus saying, ‘hey’, I am here for you NOW, and this will be my Kingdom and you will be my Children. In this narrative, Israel was to be an example by which the rest of the world should follow for salvation. This was part of the Good New, the typical Gospels everyone implies (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).
      • There are two ways to separate this Gospel (Gospel of the Kingdom / Circumcison) from Paul’s Gospel (Gospel of Grace / Gentiles or Uncircumcision). The first, being in:
2Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
      • The Second involves the fact that Jesus was not manifest in the flesh for anyone except Israel, only!
        In His own words:
Mat_10:6  But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat_15:24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
    • If you are properly reading God’s Truth in the Gospels of the Kingdom, then you should be able to then understand – this is all for the Jews. There are lessons for us to learn but the ‘actionable’ statements was for Israel, Only! Then, realizing that Peter was sent to the Jews and Paul was sent to the Gentiles (even by a new Dispensation; implying a temporary change in God’s plan since Israel refused him; that Gentiles should be grafted in; thus the Gospel of Grace was made known for the first time.). Can you now see how praying for the Kingdom (at hand; but is no longer offered, and was only to the Jews), is probably not the best impression to try and present yourself before God.

Sinners Prayer:

  • First, this is not even in scripture unless you wrongly combine the two completely separate Gospels, just to try and make it work.
  • Second, no where in scripture did the Lord command such an activity for Gentiles. Again, you have to blur the lines and NOT rightly divide his word of truth, for this to pan out. Even then – it is a real stretch of the imagination! More importantly, did he not already die to forgive us of our sins? If so, why are you still asking!?
  • Lastly, this goes 100% against the truth in his word for our salvation today.
